Footage from cameras at the Puerto Montt airport in southern Chile show the exact moment when the Calbuco Volcano erupted Wednesday evening after being dormant for more than 50 years.
President Michelle Bachelet has declared a state of emergency and 4000 people have already been evacuated from the 20 kilometer radius.
Chilean President, Michelle Bachelet, saying: "I would like to remind people coming to the zone to continue covering themselves. The fundamental risk for people with this ash is th๊at they avoid breathing in this ash".
Witnesses said they were in a state of a🙈we, and tꩵhen terror.
"I had never seen this. It scares you in the beginning. You start to wonder what is going to happen to you. Everyone starts to think about gatheri♓ng water..."
"At the beginning, it was small and then as the cloud grew there was a huge cloud over you and true terror starts. It's the first time I 've been th♔ro𒁏ugh something like this."
There have been no reports of deaths, missing persons or injuries, officials have s🌱aid.
